The Beauty of Pregnancy with a Touch of Surrealism/A Unique Keepsake Item

July 20, 2010
I am working on a series, capturing the stages of pregnancy.  I’m finishing up the fourth of month pregnancy and I’m about to take some new pictures.  I thought you would like to see how the project is coming out as I complete each stage.
Four months into pregnancy
By the way, if anyone is interested or knows anyone who might be interested in capturing their pregnancy, please feel free to contact me.  It makes a very unique keepsake item with one or more stages of the pregnancy and one of the newborn babies face to complete the series all done in a ribbonlike style.

Another Week Another Piece/Number 11 in the Self Challenge and More

June 30, 2010
I finish this one earlier this week, so it’s all zipped up and out of the way for me to start another one and also do some other work.

after
I created another one of those strange little pencil drawings as you can see below.  I don’t know if you realize this from the picture, but the drawing is only 4 inches tall.  This particular piece is called “misery has company”, don’t ask me why, and named just kind of came to me after it was done.

I’ve also been working on a sculptured self-portrait, it’s almost complete so I’m showing you it to ask what you think.
I know it still needs a little tweaking, but it’s getting there.
I know I’ve taken a little while in creating my new blue Man painting, but I am starting it at last, so hopefully I’ll have the new painting up by next week.  Sorry I’m taking so long.

Does Life Just Happen

May 29, 2010

Between my artwork, plumbing, and my everyday stuff, my life can be very busy.  Let’s see, I’m working on reestablishing a decent number of art pieces to start selling my artwork and at the same time there’s my plumbing career.  Over the last three years my life has taken some unusual turns, I had a marriage that ended, the construction field that bottomed out, and a lot of moving around.  I had to leave family to find work and now I’m working on settling in to my new life (from Florida to California).

My new life consists of: creating artwork, working on building my plumbing company, working on my new relationships, and doing the best I can to maintain my now long-distance relationship with my son.  So, does life just happen?  I don’t know, the jury still out on that one.

As you can see, I’ve been working on revamping my artwork.  I can say this, if it wasn’t for all the life-changing, my artwork would still basically be the same, but it’s not now.  My artwork is changing, and I have to say I like the direction, no matter the cause or circumstances.  I’m challenging myself more in creative ideas and level of skill.  And I’m also working a lot more diligently trying to get established and succeed as an artist.

So, the question again, does life just happen?  Recently my girl decided to get rid of a small not so attractive tattoo, and being who she is, she did not want to make the same mistake twice.  She looked diligently for a good artist, and finally found one.  Who goes by the name of Bugs and I have to say he does very unique artwork on the human body.  I’ve been sitting in on the sessions, keeping myself busy, usually reading.  The last time I went I decided to bring some small pieces that I’ve been working on.  When Bugs noticed what I was doing before he started, he came over to see my work.  He seemed to find an interest in it and asked that we keep in touch.  Bugs likes to restore old cars and improve on them in style, and he thought my particular skill could be useful.

So let’s see what happens from here.  And it’s all because of three little figures I was working on while trying to not be bored.  Now we’re starting the possibilities of the new artistic relationship.  And I sent him an e-mail, showing him the completion of the pieces I was working on and one other interesting small piece that he might find interesting.

Remember, whatever life brings your way, always stand up.  Don’t get paved under the new road, walk upon it.  See where it goes with your head held high, and always keep on trying in whatever you do.

Selling Art, and the Artist Ego / Limited Editions and Prints, the Art of Affordable Art

May 13, 2010

What does it cost to make a new piece of art work?  Of course we have our material, which is the easiest one to figure out.  On the other hand we have our time, which gets a little shady on figuring out.  As our time goes, what are we worth per hour and how many hours do we charge for.

Let me change the subject here a little, or not, we’ll see where it goes.  See, I’m not only an artist, I’m also a plumber.  When you figure out hours and material in plumbing, you have a few factors to consider: (more…)

Let me get started May 12 2010

May 12, 2010

I have been doing artwork all my life, as far back as I can remember.  I’m not too bad at it, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.  I work in a number of mediums, but right now I’m working primarily painting and sculpture.  I used to call myself a surrealist, but I’m not sure anymore.

So what am I doing now?  (more…)
